It has been established in science that music plays a pivotal role in everyday life. Although many studies have proven connections between personality and musical preferences or between music and evoked emotions or emotional states, little has been published on application of music and personality.
In this book a first instrument (IAAM) for the quantitative measurement of the underlying dimensions of functional usage of music was developed. The high reliability of this instrument could be established in three separate studies. Furthermore, it could be shown that the various dimensions of usage of music correlate with preferences and personality, wherein differential effects of the interconnection of personality, music implementation and preferences became apparent. The prediction of overall health, regarding infectious diseases, showed that everyday implementation of music is a personality-linked modulation-strategy connected to health. A theoretical embedding of these strategies within a neurophysiologic model of personality interconnects various theoretical and empirical approaches and also links these approaches to recent neurophysiologic research [207 Ref].
